Anne Hathaway and Valentino

October 21, 2012

We couldn’t help but be intrigued when we heard Valentino was coming out of retirement to design Anne Hathaway’s wedding dress.  The 80-year old designer has described her as his “muse” and has previously revealed he sees her ”like a daughter.” so it came as no surprise that he would create an enchanting gown for her big day. “The Dark Knight Rises” actress married boyfriend Adam Shulman last weekend in a quiet ceremony in Big Sur, California.  Paparazzi in a helicopter snapped the only known photo of the star’s gown.

The custom made couture creation had a fitted bodice and a full tulle skirt. The off-the-shoulder neckline emphasized her elegant shoulders and the train was supposedly “hand-painted” and “embroidered with satin flowers,” said a representative from Valentino.  The design house released his sketch for the gown, revealing that it was in fact tinted pink.

The most eye-catching detail of Hathaway’s ensemble was the 1920’s inspired headpiece.  It was made of a wide lace ribbon embellished with “a large flower, adorned with small crystal beads.”  Evidently the “Les Miserables” actress couldn’t wait for her cropped hairstyle to grow out and wanted to cover it.

Hathaway is reportedly donating the profits from the official wedding photos to various charities, including, American Cancer Society, St. Jude Children’s Research and The Girl Effect.

Speaking of wedding dresses, we can’t wait to see photos of another newlywed star, Blake Lively. The “Gossip Girl” herself officially became the luckiest girl in the world when she married Ryan Reynolds recently.  No photos have been leaked yet, probably due to an exclusive deal with a magazine, so we can only speculate about her dress.

We know that the actress’ gown was designed by Marchesa. “Blake is incredibly stylish, and she really knew what she wanted,” said Keren Craig, one of the co-founders of the brand. “It was very much how we do a lot of brides. We started with a lot of sketches, and we sit down and talk through the sketches until we came to the final dress … She just wanted to be romantic and beautiful.”

An inside source told PEOPLE she looked “very natural” on her wedding day.“Her hair was mostly down, but some of it was swept up. She didn’t wear a veil. She wore natural makeup; her skin was flawless. It was a clean look, very fresh.”

Lively paired her custom embroidered silk tulle dress with Christian Louboutin shoes “Her dress was simple yet beautiful, slightly off-white, no big bows, no train,” the source adds. We’re anxiously awaiting those beautiful wedding photos to be published!
