Designers You’ll Miss at NYFW’13

January 25, 2013

New York Fashion Week is the biggest week in fashion.  But for some designers, the pressure, stress, and timing have forced them to reconsider showing this year.  A number of designers have announced that they will not show at NYFW 2013.

Chris Benz told WWD that he’s taking this fashion week off in order to focus on “restructuring his business.” Benz is known best for his “recklessly preppy” design style. We’re hoping to see big things from him later this year.

You won’t see any cartwheels down the runway from Betsey Johnson this season, either. After a slew of financial troubles including filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy last year, Johnson is focused on bringing her fashion house back to its wacky former glory.  She’ll instead be working on a new collection and fragrance as well as launching her reality show “Betsey and Lulu,” set to premiere on the Style network.

No word why yet on why Peter Som cancelled his NYFW show.  Som’s reps told Wella, who sponsors the hair for his events, that they will not be needed this year.  Hopefully we’ll see him elsewhere this season with a new collection.

Considering the high demands of the industry, and how it seems to always be fashion week somewhere, we can’t blame these designers for taking one off.  We’ll certainly miss them though, and we’re wishing them well on some much needed RnR!
